Atlantic Ocean Seafoods Limited are wholesalers and exporters of fresh Grimsby fish, supplying haddock and cod to fish and chip shops all over the UK and beyond. In 2018, the business purchased its own property close to the Port of Grimsby in need of thorough refurbishment.
What Atlantic Ocean Seafoods needed:
The business was operating from two sites, a processing space on Grimsby’s South Humber Industrial Estate and office facilities at Alexandra Dock Business Centre. Rob Miall, Managing Director, had always wanted to purchase a commercial property and knew that operations would become more efficient under one roof. A unit became available, but it had been severely neglected and required necessary improvements.
How E-Factor helped
Rob met Steve Parker, E-Factor Business Growth Hub Advisor, at a breakfast networking event and enquired about funding for refurbishment. Steve recommended the Growing the Humber Grant and assisted in the whole application process, from business planning and collating supporting evidence to submitting the final application.
Atlantic Ocean Seafoods Limited were awarded a grant of £30,000 to be used towards the refurbishment of the unit on Prince Albert Gardens, Grimsby, including all new flooring, walls, and security. Now, the business has tripled its processing capacity and created a new job, with a view to expand the team even further in the near future. E-Factor and Rob are now in the process of applying for another grant for the purchase of new equipment.
Rob Miall, Managing Director said: “There was a lot of work to be done, and we still have some work to do, but we’re now in a much better environment with a much better focus. With everything under one roof, it’s all go.
“We couldn’t have done half the work without the grant. Without Steve’s help, this just wouldn’t have happened.”
